The SunTrackerTwo: An Evolution in the Daylighting Revolution
Ciralight’s New System Produces More Light, Longer, and at Lower Sun Angles
Park City, Utah, March 3, 2008 — Ciralight has announced the debut of its cutting-edge SunTrackerTwo, a daylighting unit that will produce more light for longer periods than SunTrackerOne, even when the sun is low on the horizon.
The unit will extend the average time electric lights can be turned off during the day to more than 10 hours, increase light levels by an average of 20 percent and capture ample sunlight to illuminate building interiors even as far north as Canada and Sweden.
“SunTrackerTwo is the next generation of high- performance daylighting,” said Mike Basch, the CEO of Ciralight, a manufacturer of an expanding line of high-performance daylighting products.
“Ciralight will continue to lead the daylighting revolution with this new product and we will continue our research and development efforts to enhance the quality of sunlight we can bring indoors,” he said.
SunTrackerOne, the original system, produced approximately 35 percent return on investment, enhanced people and building performance, and helped preserve the environment. SunTrackerTwo will exceed SunTrackerOne performance, according to Basch.
Three technological advancements are responsible for the higher performance.
The first is a single mirror that replaces the three mirror array that was the signature of SunTrackerOne. The single mirror, coupled with Ciralight’s advanced light well design, is what increases the average time electric lights can be turned off during the day to 10.5 hours per day, from 9.2 hours. The single mirror also is what boosts lighting levels.
Second, a global positioning system (GPS) that doesn’t require preprogramming replaces a microprocessor controller. The GPS tracks its location and locks onto the sun even when the sun is at very low angles. This is what enables the high- performance daylighting system to perform effectively in northern latitudes.
Third, an additional frame makes installation easier and assures a better quality product to the end user.
