Buy Green, Be Green, Sell Green

The Distributed Energy website has posted an interesting article regarding Office Depot’s progress in going green written by Lyn Corum.

In August 2007, it announced that between 2005 and 2006 it had reduced its carbon dioxide emissions by 10.1%, reduced electricity consumption by nearly 66 million kWh, natural gas by 50,000 millimeters Btu, and realized savings of more than $6.2 million. This was accomplished while the company was expanding its facilities by 1.7 million square feet. Furthermore, in 2006, it purchased 71.8 million kWh in the form of renewable energy credits.

The company is reducing its carbon footprint throughout North America, and will eventually do so in Europe, where it has offices as well. Implementing an energy efficiency and conservation program is at the heart of accomplishing this environmental strategy. Furthermore, the company has invested in educating its customers, and in environmental research.
